With more than 80 years of combined fund-raising experience, members of the University of Nebraska Foundation’s UNMC development team share a common goal — to maximize private support for the medical center.

Since the mid-1990s the NU Foundation has received more than $350 million to benefit students, academic programs, endowed faculty positions, research and capital construction projects at UNMC.

Donor gifts have led to the creation of student scholarships and faculty professorships and chairs. They also have supported research initiatives, academic programs and construction of the Lied Transplant Center, the Durham Research Center, the Hixson-Lied Clinical Center, the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education and the Research Center of Excellence II, among other projects.

The team works closely with medical center administrators and faculty to understand funding needs and to determine effective fund-raising strategies. Development directors also travel throughout the country, sharing the medical center’s ambitious vision with alumni, donors and friends and encouraging their support.

“This vision and the enthusiasm felt throughout the campus make our work extremely rewarding,” said Amy Volk, NU Foundation vice president and director of the UNMC development team. “We play an important role in helping UNMC successfully advance education, research and patient care. It is a privilege to work with alumni and friends who want to be an integral part of positively influencing the health of our community, state and beyond.”

Among the individuals working on UNMC’s behalf are development directors assigned to specific colleges or departments and those specializing in gift planning and annual giving campaigns.

“As we look to the future we are fortunate to have a seasoned and growing team of development professionals who will proactively assist the medical center in achieving its world-class vision,” said John Niemann. Ed.D., NU Foundation senior vice president and director of development in the foundation’s Omaha office. “The medical center’s extraordinary growth in academic, clinical and research excellence combined with its ambitious goals favorably position the medical center and our development team for exceptional achievements.”
