South Omaha’s history the focus of partnership lecture

Gary Kastrick, a life-long resident of south Omaha and teacher at South High School, will talk about the events that made this area a key part of the city during a noon lecture on Tuesday in the College of Nursing, Rooms 1011 and 1012.

The lecture is part of partnership series between UNMC and the Durham Western Heritage Museum. UNMC employees are encouraged to bring lunch and enjoy the lecture, which is free.

Kastrick also will give a lecture titled “The Magic City and the Stockyards” on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Durham Western Heritage Museum’s Swanson Gallery. Employees and students of UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center can attend the museum lecture free with valid identification.

Kastrick is a graduate of South High School, where he currently is a history teacher as well as the director of the “Omaha Project,” a museum at the school created and designed by students in his classes.

Contact Jill Carson at jlcarson@unmc.edu if you wish to attend the lecture on campus and contact Ashley at 444-5071 or alothrop@dwhm.org to make reservations for the lecture at the museum.

The partnership with the museum allows medical center students and employees to visit the museum and attend its functions free year round with valid identification.
