Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., and his wife, Beverly, hosted the first ever UNMC alumni event in Florida late last month.

About 35 UNMC alumni and friends attended “Cocktails & Conversation Waterside in Tampa Bay” on March 31. The UNMC Alumni Association and the University of Nebraska Foundation sponsored the event.

Dr. Maurer and others from UNMC, including College of Medicine Dean John Gollan, M.D., Ph.D., and Kyle Meyer, associate dean for the UNMC School of Allied Health Professions, updated Florida’s UNMC alums about progress and developments at the medical center.

“It was wonderful to meet with our alumni and friends in the ‘Sunshine State’ and let them know about all that’s going on at the medical center,” Dr. Maurer said. “We had a lot of good news to convey and our Florida alumni seemed very excited about what’s happening at UNMC.”

Guests also were treated to warm weather as they visited with each other on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.

“We were very pleased with this event, as it was the first time we had hosted a gathering in Florida for UNMC alumni and friends,” said Kim Cuda, UNMC’s director of Alumni Affairs. “We look forward to going back to Florida again.”
