Rick Boldt, president of the C. Louis Meyer Foundation and project manager of UNMC business continuity, displays a plate he made for a past Arts for Hearts Art Show and Auction. Organizers are calling on medical center faculty and staff to paint a plate for this year’s show, which will be next Wednesday and Thursday.

Painters are being sought to contribute to the sixth annual Arts for Hearts Art Show and Silent Auction.

The event, which is sponsored by the C. Louis Meyer Foundation, will be held in the Durham Outpatient Center’s Central Atrium (second floor of the outpatient center near the gift shop) on Wednesday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants in the Recreational Therapy Program create a number of pieces of art and crafts for sale, and other items are donated by local area artists. Also, in recent years, UNMC, MMI and The Nebraska Medical Center faculty and staff members have contributed hand-painted plates that were sold at the auction.

Event organizers are again calling on employees to contribute plates, which have been a big hit, said Nicole Giron, adaptive therapy specialist, in the MMI Recreational Therapy Program.

“It really has been a great way for the campus to get involved with the show,” Giron said.
