Elementary students visit UNMC recycling center

Nearly 60 students from Mars Academy in Omaha visited the UNMC recycling center last week to learn about the importance of recycling.

UNMC’s Rick Boldt and Ken Holz explained the process of recycling corrugated cardboard, mixed paper and aluminum and aerosol cans.

Each month, the UNMC recycling program sends three to four semi-loads of corrugated cardboard and mixed paper to Muskogee, Okla. Each semi holds 44,000 lbs. Beyond UNMC, recycled material is collected from Nebraska Health System, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Joslyn Art Museum, Metro Credit Union and a few others.

UNMC’s recycling program started April 28, 1993.
