Thirty members of the Region 7 Regional Response Team toured the biocontainment unit and the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory biosecurity lab at UNMC last week.

The Regional Response Team (RRT) is composed of a representative from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard and representatives for the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

There are thirteen RRTs in the United States, each representing a different geographic region of the country. These teams provide a forum for federal agency field offices and state agencies to exchange information about their abilities to respond to a disaster. While the RRTs do not respond directly to a disaster, they are called upon to provide techincal advice, equipment and manpower.
