Cyronek moves on after 30 years at UNMC

picture disc. For 30 years, Danita Cyronek has looked out for patients of all ages.

On Monday, she officially leaves the UNMC Department of Pediatric Neurology, where she’s served as a pediatric case manager since August 2003.

“I’ve met so many wonderful people and fabulous patients,” Cyronek said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time as a nurse and patient advocate.”

Cyronek’s farewell tea is today (June 15) from 2 to 4 p.m. in Private Dining Room C.

During her 30 years at the medical center, Cyronek has worked in various campus positions including clinical nurse coordinator for gastroenterology and hepatology; clinical research coordinator for otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, psychopharmacology nurse coordinator/investigator for psychiatry, staff nurse for family medicine, research nurse for neurosurgery, infectious control nurse for pediatric infectious disease, staff nurse for the neonatal intensive care unit and nurse coordinator for the acute pain service.

“What you see is what you get with me,” said Cyronek, who is known for her positive and outgoing personality.

Colleagues agree. “She’s a free-spirit with an amazing ability to work with people,” said pediatrician Sharon Stoolman, M.D.

After receiving her nursing degree from the College of St. Mary’s, Cyronek worked as an assistant head nurse for Douglas County Hospital (psychiatry) and as an elementary school nurse in Millard before joining UNMC in 1977. A regular student, she holds minors in psychology, gerontology, public relations, biology and communications.

Cyronek and her husband, Dave, a retired detective with the Omaha Police Department, are moving to Gilbert, Ariz., where she will join Barrow Neurological Institute of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix as an epilepsy coordinator. The couple’s eldest son, Brian, lives in Gilbert; their youngest son, Chris, is moving with them.
