Spotlight on new faculty — meet Alvin Wee, D.D.S.

Fellowship: University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh

Research interests: Dr. Wee’s research focuses on early detection and quality of life for head and neck cancer patients. His current NIH K23 award investigates patient-related and health care-related determinants relevant to late stage diagnosis of oral cancer. Both determinants contribute to the development of a Web-based educational intervention for primary care physicians to promote early detection of oral cancer.

General description of duties: Dr. Wee is involved in the dental management of head and neck cancer patients prior to and during radiation / chemotherapy. He also is treating patients with conventional or implant supported prosthetic reconstruction of head and neck patients with cancer, trauma or congenital deformities. Other clinical interests include treating patients with complex oral rehabilitation and patients requiring dental appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea.
