UNeMed awards ceremony today in the DRC auditorium

The highlight of the UNeMed Innovation Week activities comes today during a ceremony recognizing UNMC scientists for their new inventions, patents and licensed technology at the 2007 Research Innovation Awards.

The campus community is invited to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 4 p.m. in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

The ceremony will include comments from UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., UNMC Vice Chancellor for Research, Tom Rosenquist, Ph.D., UNeMed President Jim Linder, M.D., and Michael Dixon, Ph.D., director of intellectual property at UNeMed.

Awards will be presented at 4:15 p.m. to individuals with new inventions, patents and licensed technology. A Lifetime Achievement Award also will be presented, followed by a reception in the DRC Atrium.

Innovation Week activities culminate on Friday with a lunch and learn presentation with Kate Rigaut, Ph.D., J.D., a patent attorney and partner at Dann Dorfman Herrell and Skillman PC in Philadelphia, at 11 a.m. in the DRC Auditorium.

In addition to her Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics, Dr. Rigaut has extensive experience prosecuting biomedical patents for clients nationwide. Her presentation is titled “From the bench to the patent office … What the inventor needs to know.” Pizza and cold refreshments will be provided.
