Sunday health fair to target underserved in south Omaha

UNMC medical students will host the first American Medical Association Medical Student Section Omaha Health Fair at Assumption Elementary School on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The school’s address is 22 nd and U streets.

Students and physicians will provide free health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, vision and hearing tests, as well as information regarding diabetes, safety, pregnancy, prenatal care and dental care. Twenty information and screening booths will be featured. Spanish translators, a sampling of free health products and educational information also will be available.

“This is one of the most ambitious community health projects organized by medical students of the UNMC chapter of the American Medical Association,” said Sarah Dance, UNMC medical student. “Any support we can get is greatly appreciated.”

The event may become an annual event that will expand, Dance said.
