Public invited to chronic myelogenous leukemia presentation

UNMC and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invite the public to a free presentation on chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) on Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. CST.

The presentation, originating in Omaha, will be transmitted live via teleconference to Lincoln, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, North Platte and Scottsbluff.

Patients, family members, friends and health professionals are invited to attend. Dinner will be provided.

“Meet the Doctor About Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia,” will be presented by Marcel Devetten, M.D., assistant professor at the UNMC oncology/hematology section. He will talk about the latest information on CML, including treatment, side effect management, and clinical trials for newly diagnosed patients or those who have relapsed.

UNMC — along with its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center — is home to one of the most successful cancer centers in the world, known particularly for their expertise in treatment of leukemias and lymphomas. The cancer team also has led and participated in research that has resulted in better cancer treatments and improved patient care around the world.

  • Kearney — Good Samaritan Health Systems, Cancer Center, 102 E. 33rd St. Enter at west door;
  • North Platte — Great Plains Regional medical Center, 601 W. Leota St., Dakota Room
  • Scottsbluff — Regional West Medical Center, 4021 Ave. B Monument Room (4:30 to 6:30 p.m. MST.)

Continuing education credit of one contact hour is available for nurses through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
