Lauren Hill

Lauren Hill, director of the Governor’s Policy Research Office, will be the guest speaker at the UNMC Delegates Program event on Friday, March 14 at noon in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

Hill graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., where she majored in psychology and political science, and then from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1992. She served as an assistant attorney general under Don Stenberg and worked for former Gov. Mike Johanns as director of policy research before taking the job assignment with Heineman.

As director of the Governor’s Policy Research Office, Hill coordinates every policy issue Heineman confronts and helps implement the governor’s policy agenda in a variety of ways such as working with agency directors, state senators and Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood.

The UNMC Delegates Program is a grassroots advocacy program composed of people willing to advocate on behalf of UNMC to federal and state representatives.

Members encouraged to bring a friend

Quarterly speaker series events are open to members of the UNMC Delegates Program only, but members are welcome and encouraged to bring a friend. Visit www.unmc.edu/dept/unmcdelegates to become a delegate, and to register for this event. Delegates and those who register to become delegates before the March 14 event will receive free lunch at the ceremony.

The program began in August 2006, and currently consists of nearly 300 alumni, students and friends of UNMC as well as faculty and staff.

Anyone who is willing to advocate on behalf of UNMC is encouraged to become a delegate.

The free program uses e-mail to communicate with delegates regarding issues of importance to UNMC.

Delegates will receive informational e-mails regarding congressional and state legislative developments and will be called to action when crucial issues arise.
Aside from e-mail communication, members will be invited to attend an annual dinner as well as delegates-only quarterly events. Past speakers have included Richard Raymond, M.D., USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety for the Food Safety and Inspection Service; Duane Acklie, chairman of Crete Carrier Corporation; Joann Schaefer, M.D., Nebraska’s chief medical officer; Joel Johnson, M.D., Nebraska State Senator and UNMC alum; and Tom Rosenquist, Ph.D., UNMC’s Vice Chancellor for Research.
