Artists, musicians and others raise funds for VA wheelchair games

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System and the Great Plains Paralyzed Veterans of America will host “A Night at the Bemis” fundraiser May 17 to benefit the 28th National Veterans Wheelchair Games, which will come to Omaha this summer.

The fundraising event at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, 724 S. 12th St., begins at 7 p.m. The event will showcase Omaha’s finest food, fashion, music and art. All proceeds will support the games, which will be hosted in Omaha from July 25 through July 29.

“A Night at the Bemis” is presented by Quality Brands of Omaha / Anheuser-Busch. The evening features a fashion show, local artists, musicians and a live and silent auction. Tickets cost $25 per person, $40 for couples and $20 for guests 20 years old and younger.

Corporate contributions and in-kind donations are currently being accepted for “A Night at the Bemis.” All contributions are tax deductible. The event will feature:

  • Artists such as Glass Harmony, Nic Nicosia, Cuthbert & Stolzberg and Therman Statom;
  • A runway show that features Agency 89 and Reel People models presenting today’s hottest fashion trends from beyourself boutique, Urban Outfitters, Wake N Skate and T’eez Salon;
  • Musicians such as Little Brazil, Sleep Said the Monster, 49 Cents, oom-pah and musical selections by Brent Crampton of loom; and
  • Live and silent auctions by emcee, S. Scott Moore.

“We’re thrilled to have the best of Omaha’s art and entertainment industry come together to offer this unique event benefitting the 28th National Veterans Wheelchair Games,” said Craig Enenbach, the games’ local organizing committee coordinator. “We’re thankful for the community’s continued support of our veterans and look forward to the event’s success.”

The games are sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
