UNMC College of Nursing students participated in a graduate student research colloquium last month. The colloquium was co-sponsored by the College of Nursing Graduate Program and Gammi Pi Chapter-At-Large, Sigma Theta Tau International.

Thirty-eight master’s students, one doctoral student and one faculty member presented their research findings in poster and oral presentations.

The following are the results of the colloquium:

Deborah Richey received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in an Oral Presentation for her research titled “Symptom Clusters in the High Dose Chemotherapy Patient.” Her adviser was June Eilers, Ph.D.

Sabrina Reed received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in a Poster Presentation. Her research was on “The Significance of Hospice Care in Nursing Home Residents’ Physical Symptom and Distress Management.” Sarah Thompson, Ph.D., was her adviser.

Kelly Casey received the Muriel Munchrath Gamma Pi Chapter-at-Large, Sigma Theta Tau Award for Excellence in a Nursing Research Presentation for her poster titled “Fatigue Among Family Caregivers of Patients with Head and Neck Cancer: A Mixed Method Study.” Her adviser was Karen Schumacher, Ph.D.

Cynthia Arnold, Alleson Deaust and Charity Ebert received the College of Nursing Alumni Association Rena E. Boyle Award for Excellence in Clinical Nursing Research for their poster titled “An Appraisal of Assessments and Strategies Used to Address Patient Characteristics Contributing to Medication Non-adherence Among Older Adults with Heart Failure Receiving Home Health Care After Hospital Discharge.” Their adviser was Sue Barnason, Ph.D.
