Dr. Bylund to step down as pharmacology chairman

picture disc. After 14 years as professor and chairman of the department of pharmacology, David Bylund, Ph.D., has decided to step down as chairman, effective Aug. 31.

Dr. Bylund plans to spend more time pursuing his research interests, as well as devote time to a three-year leadership commitment to the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, one of the world’s leading societies for pharmacologists. He will serve as president-elect until 2003 when he begins a one-year term as president. He will serve as past-president in 2004.

“I’d like to express my appreciation to Dr. Bylund for the contributions he has made to the department, the college and the university,” said James Armitage, M.D., dean of the College of Medicine. picture disc.

Effective Sept. 1, William Berndt, Ph.D., will serve as interim chairman of the department of pharmacology. Dr. Berndt recently retired as professor of pharmacology, dean of graduate studies and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

“Dr. Berndt is extraordinarily qualified to fill this important post,” Dr. Armitage said in making the announcement.
