Memorial service to be held today for Dr. Jeffrey Knajdl

Jeffrey Knajdl, M.D.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. today for Jeffrey Knajdl, M.D., a psychiatric oncologist in Bellevue, Neb., with strong ties to UNMC. The service will be held at the Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak & Cutler Mortuary, 7805 West Center Road in Omaha.

Dr. Knajdl, 40, died on July 18 at his home in Bellevue. A 1994 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, he frequently gave lectures at UNMC on psychiatric issues in primary care medicine and served on the Grand Rounds Steering Committee in the UNMC Department of Psychiatry.

While in medical school, Dr. Knajdl received the Frank J. Menolascino Outstanding Student in Psychiatry Award. In addition, he served as class secretary-treasurer and on the student crisis intervention team.

A funeral service was held for Dr. Knajdl in Holdrege, Neb., on Wednesday with interment in the Kearney Cemetery.

He devoted his career to taking care of patients with co-existing psychiatric and medical problems, principally patients with oncology diagnoses. His interests included traveling, fishing, running, water skiing, singing, painting and playing the piano.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Knajdl. Immediate survivors include his mother, Phyllis Andrijeski and her husband, Ron, of Holdrege; and a sister, Lori Doellman, and her husband, Steve of Bloomington, Ill.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
