The event will be held Aug. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the “Time Travelers” program, a partnership between the medical center and the museum.

Several activities are planned, including face painting, an “Amazonian” hand puppet station, coloring and more. A presentation from the Henry Doorly Zoo is also planned for 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., as participants take an in-depth look at life and culture in the Amazon.

Amazon Voyage is on display now through Aug. 31.

Take a voyage along the most biologically diverse river in the world and discover that there are many creatures far more intimidating than piranhas or anacondas.

Created for everyone, especially families with children, this exhibit takes visitors on a boat journey to seven exciting ports of call along the Amazon.

Through hands-on activities, original multimedia presentations, computer interactives, story telling, live fish in uniquely designed tanks, original artifacts, dance, music and live demonstrations, visitors investigate the regions incredible biodiversity, encounter field researchers making incredible new discoveries, and participate in a celebration of the Amazon River.

A cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be available. Attendees are encouraged to bring a guest. The museum is at 801 S. 10th St. in Omaha.

The “Time Travelers” program offers the employee event annually and allows employees, students and their families free admission to the museum, as well as other programs, throughout the year. Free admission to the museum may be attained any time throughout the year by presenting valid identification.
