Radiography students, top picture, and radiation therapy students received pins during the fifth annual UNMC Division of Radiation Science Technology Education Pinning Ceremony.

In a symbolic pinning ceremony, students in UNMC’s Division of Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) received a button-sized, circular, red pin marking a milestone in their educational pursuit.

The Sept. 7 event marked the division’s fifth annual pinning ceremony.

“The ceremony is a formal introduction to the field of radiation sciences and an opportunity for students to focus on professionalism,” said James Temme, associate director of the RSTE division.

The pin symbolizes the student’s dedication to the highest principles of respect, competency, service and integrity.

Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., associate dean of the SAHP, welcomed the 44 incoming students to the division, including seven distance education students from Columbus, Scottsbluff and Grand Island, Temme said.

Michelle Verzal, an RSTE program graduate, administered the student oath.

The RSTE division includes the following programs: diagnostic medical sonography; nuclear medicine; radiography; radiation therapy; CT/MRI; and cardiovascular interventional technology.
