Donors needed for Tuesday blood drive

About 40 time slots are still available for those who wish to give blood during Tuesday’s drive at the Center for Healthy Living.

Organizers hope to collect 71 units of blood at the drive, which will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Every blood donation is an opportunity to help someone in need,” said Peter Pellerito of the Center for Healthy Living. “Giving blood really does help save lives and the need for blood never ends.

Despite the fact that giving blood is easy, safe and takes a short amount of time, only 5 percent of eligible Americans donate, he said.

“By donating a single pint of whole blood you can help and even save the lives of up to three other individuals in need,” Pellerito said.

The Red Cross has an electronic scheduling system that will be used for this drive. Those wishing to donate can schedule appointments for the drive at http://givebloodgivelife.org.

Participants can find the UNMC drive by first clicking on our region and then entering the UNMC drive sponsor code — which is 1199 — or by entering an Omaha ZIP code (68198) and scrolling down to the UNMC drive on Oct. 7.

Those who are experience problems with the registration Web site can call Peter Pellerito for assistance at 559-5253.
