Susie Thorne kicks off Music as Medicine series today

Susie Thorne and her jazz band “friends” will kick off the eighth season of the “Music as Medicine” series with a free noon concert in the Durham Outpatient Center on Thursday.

Thorne — a Hastings native — is the daughter of a classically trained vocalist and a professional trumpet player who performed with jazz greats Lionel Hampton and Gerry Mulligan.

Most “Music as Medicine” concerts are held the third Thursday of each month. The exceptions are December’s concert — which will be on the second Thursday (Dec. 11) — and June’s concert — will be on the first Thursday.

Patients, staff, students and family members are invited to bring lunch and enjoy the music.
