The Nebraska Chapter of the March of Dimes and Children’s Hospital recently presented Excellence in Nursing awards to 65 Nebraska nurses for their dedication to the nursing profession and quality patient outcomes.

Nurses were nominated by individuals who wished to recognize a nurse for their outstanding contributions.

Included among the nurses who received awards were:

  • Janice Twiss, Ph.D., an associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing; and
  • Joyce Hall, Victoria Halley and Cindy Mathiasen of UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center.

Miranda Brannon of the UNMC College of Nursing in Omaha was among three graduating nursing students who also were honored by the March of Dimes.

The students — who each attended a baccalaureate nursing program in Nebraska — were honored for their academic excellence, outstanding neonatal and/or pediatric patient care to premature and/or low birth weight infants and children, inclusion of families in patient care, provision of extraordinary care and compassion, contribution to the positive image of the student nurse and participation in community service.
