Some expressed their love through poetry. Others chose pictures, songs, or hip-hop. But every entry in the I Love UNMC video contest displayed a certain … well … sense of style, humor and creativity.

The Gnome Report

Chuckles the UNMC Gnome takes a break from his campus duties to read the results of the first “I Love UNMC” random prize drawing.

If sharing the love for UNMC wasn’t enough to spur participation, a variety of prizes were secured to provide a little motivation. Every entry is eligible for a random prize drawing. This month’s recipients are:

Fran Higgins, School of Allied Health Professions, “No Green Eggs Here”
Rick Fisher, ILT College of Nursing, “Hungry Brains”
Robin Jaeckel, Pam Ehmke, Debbie Baer – College of Public Health – “Why Would You Ever Leave the UNMC Campus?”
Kristin Watkins, Center for Biopreparedness Education, “The Reasons”
Anna Jacobs, Student in the pathology/microbiology department, “Durham Lab Priceless”
LaDonna Tworek, College of Nursing, “How Do I Love Thee.UNMC”
Ira Combs, Center for Reducing Health Disparities, “Dr. Jesse Loves His Job at UNMC.”

Higgins won the top valued prize, a romantic package. It includes an overnight stay at the Cornerstone Mansion Inn and two tickets to a performance at the Holland Performing Arts Center.

Fisher won the Maverick Hockey ticket package, which included tickets to a January University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey game and gift certificates to Mama’s Pizza.

Other winners received free lunches from Tiger Tom’s Pub and Don & Millie’s, and gift certificates from Cornerstone Hospital Gift Shop, Valentino’s Pizza and the UNMC Bookstore.

The online video contest is open to all alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of UNMC. It’s simple to enter. Just create a video, two minutes or less, telling us why you love UNMC. We accept videos from cell phones or digital cameras.

Perhaps the upcoming holiday break will allow time for reflection, inspiration and imagination.

So go ahead. Get creative. Tell us why you love UNMC!
