Lookin’ at U – Joyce Sikora

picture disc.Quick, think of five things others should know about you.

That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”

Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee or student to feature.

This week is a bit special in that we feature Joyce Sikora, SAP coordinator, who will retire at the end of this month after working at UNMC for 41 years. The campus is invited to a retirement tea for Sikora today from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Wittson Hall, Room 3042.

Here, in her own words, are five fun facts about Joyce:

Joyce Sikora

  • I started at UNMC as a clerk typist. I typed the many different diet menus for the patients, mimeographed (I bet a lot of the younger ones don’t know what that is) the necessary copies and delivered them to the wards.

  • I am number five of 15 children. All of whom are living as is my Dad, who will soon be 97 years old. I have a blended family of eight children and 13 grandchildren.

  • My husband and I have had an electronic recycling business for the last 11 years.

  • I love to travel by car and we drive off the beaten paths, no matter where we go. We are campers and hope to become snow birds.

  • My faith in Jesus is the most important thing in my life and is what has helped me through many rough times in the last 41 years.

Read UNMC Today next Thursday to see who is featured in the next Lookin’ at U article. Who knows — it could be U.
