That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”

Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee or student to feature.

This week, we feature Bill Lawlor, director financial compliance and federal costing.

Here, in his own words, are five fun facts about Bill:

  • My wife, Anne, also works at UNMC and it was through her that I realized I wanted to leave the corporate world and work at UNMC. We have a son, Jack (8), and a daughter, Sarah (6).

  • I coach my son’s hockey team. I grew up near a lake and played hockey every winter as a kid, so it’s great to be able to share my love of hockey with my son. Jack and I also follow the Mavericks and Lancers.

  • I earned my masters degree in philosophy from St. Michael’s Institute, Gonzaga University. During this time I also spent a summer working in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala (in the highlands).

  • I grew up in Lincoln with four brothers and two sisters. My family ran the oldest family-owned sporting goods store in the United States (Lawlor’s Sporting Goods, founded in 1896) and my younger brother, Pat, runs the company now.

  • I am an active member of the UNMC bike club and one of the top 10 CPA guitar players in Nebraska (unofficial results).
