Background checks in bioterrorism preparedness forum today

The UNMC campus community is invited to attend a panel discussion on “The Role of Background Checks in Bioterrorism Prevention” Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the College of Nursing, Cooper Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

The program, sponsored by the UNMC Faculty Senate, also will be broadcast to the College of Dentistry in Lincoln, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Teachers College, Room 202; University of Nebraska at Kearney, West Center Building, Room 144; and Scottbluff, Room 201. This is the first in a series of bioterrorism-related forums to be sponsored by the Faculty Senate.

Lynne Farr, Ph.D, president of the UNMC Faculty Senate, and professor in UNMC’s College of Nursing, will moderate the discussion, which will include the following panelists:

  • Steven Hinrichs, M.D., professor, pathology/microbiology, UNMC
  • Thomas Gouttierre, dean, International Students and Programs, UNMC and UNO
  • Amy Longo, J.D., attorney, adjunct assistant professor, Preventive and Societal Medicine, UNMC
  • Timothy Butz, executive director, ACLU Nebraska
  • Toby Schonfeld, Ph.D., assistant professor, Preventive and Societal Medicine,
  • Casey Johnson, vice president, UNMC Student Senate
