John Um, M.D., assistant professor in the section cardiothoracic surgery in the department of surgery, is among the many new faculty members at UNMC.

Title: Assistant professor in the section of cardiothoracic surgery in the department of surgery.

Specialty: Cardiothoracic surgery

Areas of interest: Heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, surgical therapies for heart failure, adult cardiac surgery, coronary and valvular heart disease.

Medical degree: Brown University School of Medicine, Providence, R.I.

Residency: General surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey in New Brunswick, N.J., and cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco.

Fellowship: Thoracic transplantation and mechanical assist devices at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C.
