Downloading copyright protected material is prohibited

The UNMC/NHS campus is reminded that under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, copyright infringement of digital works may result in both civil and criminal penalties. The music and film industries are actively monitoring Internet usage to identify potential copyright infringement activity.

University policy strictly forbids the downloading of material such as music, movies, computer software and games that faculty, staff and students do not have a legal right to use. Programs such as Kazaa, Morpheus, Bearshare, Aimster, etc., must not be utilized on the UNMC network to download materials that faculty, staff and students are not authorized to use. Violations of this policy will be considered a performance issue and will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
