Jacque Diggle, manager of the UNMC General Supply, Shipping & Receiving and Furniture Stores, said her department recycles many surplus items including furniture, lab equipment, computers, printers, copiers, monitors, metals, toner cartridges, office supplies and just about anything else on campus that is no longer needed.

When furniture on campus is replaced, the old furniture is sent to surplus. Often other campus departments can use the furniture.

Furniture stores hosts several public sales annually. These sales, along with sales of equipment and computers, has generated more than $55,000 per year in revenue, which gives new use to the products and reduces landfill.

In one year, Diggle said, the furniture stores recycled enough furniture, computers and equipment to fill a football field.

Furniture Stores also handles departmental moves and storage.
