Open house for west Omaha cancer center set for Saturday

An artist’s rendering of the new cancer center being built in west Omaha by UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, and UNMC Physicians. An open house for the new center will be held Saturday.

In celebration of the opening of a new cancer center in west Omaha. UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, will host an open house at the new facility on Saturday.

The new center — which is at 175th and Burke streets near the Village Pointe Shopping Center — will provide the same expert cancer treatment that patients receive at the Eppley Cancer Center in midtown.

The open house will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will include refreshments and tours of the new center.

The following is a list of special presentations that will take place during the open house:

  • 9:30 a.m. — “Update on the Causes and Treatments for Lymphoma” by Julie Vose, M.D., Chief of hematology/oncology and associate director of clinical research in the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center;
  • 10 a.m. — “Breast Cancer in 2009” by Elizabeth Reed, M.D., associate professor of internal medicine and director of the UNMC Breast Cancer Program,
  • 10:30 a.m. — “Survivorship-getting back to normal” by Deb Darrington, M.D., assistant professor in UNMC oncology-hematology section; and
  • 11 a.m. — “Prostate Cancer-Twenty Years of Education in Twenty Minutes” by Charles Enke, M.D., chairman of UNMC’s radiology department.

The event also will feature booths with information on a breast cancer registry, leukemia/lymphoma, oncology/hematology, survivorship and the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.
