UNMC’s Michael Feloney, M.D., will lead a discussion on “the science of sex” during a Science Cafe today at 7 p.m. at the Slowdown at 729 N. 14th St., in Omaha.
Dr. Feloney — assistant professor of urologic surgery at UNMC — currently is one of the only physicians in Omaha who actively treat female sexual dysfunction, which is defined as any medical problem or phenomenon that prevents females from engaging in normal sexual activity.
Science Cafes debuted in February and drew students, young professionals, doctors and science teachers.

The Science Cafes are part of an effort by UNMC and other groups to increase the population’s science literacy. A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC’s strategic plan. The aim of the Science Cafes is to increase young adult interest in science by presenting it in a casual setting.
More than 80 people attended the first Science Cafe and nearly 200 came to the second. This means those who attend on April 7 should arrive early as free pizza will once again be provided by the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, for the first 50 people.
Kendra Schmid, Ph.D., assistant professor of biostatics in the College of Public Health, will speak on “the science of attractiveness” at the Science Cafe on Tuesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. Dr. Schmid’s research was recently featured on the Discovery Channel.
