UNMC’s success is grounded in bold visions and clear goals.

And, despite a weakened economy, UNMC will continue to flourish, Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., said during Tuesday’s Annual Faculty Meeting.

“It will take all of us working hard, together, to continue our upward trajectory,” he said. “The downturn in the economy is a bump in the road for us.”

UNMC has flourished in the past decade because of its strategic, creative and bold actions, Dr. Maurer said.

“It’s not uncommon for people to say ‘what’s the rush?’ I say, I’d like to see it in my lifetime,” he said.

UNMC deans and directors, too, have bold visions for their respective colleges and units. In a 15-minute video, they each shared their goals, which ranged from the College of Dentistry becoming a leader in oral cancer research to the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s vision for an enhanced motion analysis laboratory.

“We know excellence … and the community wants us to be the very best,” Dr. Maurer said.

On Tuesday, UNMC faculty and staff, too, sat back and imagined the possibilities that lie ahead.
