This surgical robot and other technologies will be on display during Tuesday’s open house for the new Centers for Advanced Surgical Technologies and Minimally Invasive Surgeries facility in Swanson Hall.

The Centers for Advanced Surgical Technology (CAST) and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) will host the grand opening of a newly renovated research collaboration and administrative space on the second level of Swanson Hall on Tuesday (Aug. 25) from 2 to 4 p.m.

The new facility will house investigators from UNMC, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who primarily focus on biomedical and surgical technology research.

“We invite faculty, staff and students to tour our center,” said Dmitry Oleynikov, M.D., associate professor of surgery and director of CAST and MIS. “You will have an opportunity to initiate movement of mini surgical robots using game controllers, test your robotic surgical skills with a virtual reality simulator, and see how a multi-function robotic surgical tool is developed.”

Those who attend the open house will be able to:

  • Tour the facility;
  • Meet research personnel; and
  • Participate in interactive research displays.

Refreshments will be served and investigators and graduate students will be on hand to demonstrate technology and answer questions.

Please enter through the doors on the south side of Swanson Hall to get to the facility.
