Lookin’ at U – Melanie Stewart

picture disc.Quick, think of five things others should know about you.

That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”
Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee or student to feature.

This week, we feature Melanie Stewart, manager of research resources in the two Durham Research Center towers, for the office of Vice Chancellor for Research.

Here, in her own words, are five fun facts about Melanie:

  • I love to travel and almost all of my trips involve a national park. I tend to go places that are colder; my favorite so far is Alaska. I’d like to go back in the winter to see the snow and the northern lights.

  • I am an amateur photographer, but am getting better with practice, education and better equipment. Most of my pictures are from places I have traveled or animals.

  • I am a big sports fan, especially hockey and college football. My favorite ‘local’ teams are the Huskers and the Lancers, but I’ll watch just about any game.

  • I love to read and generally choose a book about a place I have been or am going or a mystery. I really like Patricia Cornwell and Tess Gerritsen novels, and need them to write books faster!

  • I learned I have a high platelet count and now donate two units of platelets every other week at the Red Cross. To date I have donated more than 230 units.

Read UNMC Today next Thursday to see who is featured in the next Lookin’ at U article. Who knows — it could be U.
