H1N1 FluMist available for priority groups, more on the way

The Nebraska Medical Center has received its initial shipment of the novel H1N1 influenza vaccine.

The first shipment is extremely limited and will be distributed to reach the high-risk target population stipulated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The first doses come in the FluMist form, which is for use in those aged two to 50 who are otherwise healthy.

Officials anticipate more of the vaccine in both the FluMist and shot forms will be delivered in the future and the supply should facilitate all who wish to be vaccinated.

Due to the small volume of vaccine available currently, it will only be available in a few clinics and patient-care areas.

As more vaccine becomes available it will be distributed quickly and equitably.
