Dr. Shen was the president of Shanghai Second Medical University (now Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine) in 2004 when he helped establish a collaborative agreement between his school and UNMC.

His recent visit was not only important for the continued collaboration between UNMC and SJTUSM, one of the top medical schools in China, but also for the relationship between the State of Nebraska and Shanghai City, said Jialin Zheng, M.D., director of UNMC’s Asia Pacific Rim Development Program

Dr. Shen’s visit also included a trip to Lincoln to meet with Gov. Dave Heineman and a dinner at Joslyn Art Museum hosted by Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D.

In addition to SJTUSM, UNMC’s strong China connections include relationships with the Chinese Academy of Science, the China Scholarship Council and Xi’an
Jiaotong University School of Medicine.

Other members of Dr. Shen’s delegation included:

  • Ma Chunlei, director-general, the Office of the Committee for Promoting Ethical and Cultural Progress, Shanghai;
  • Li Junxiu, deputy director-general, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission;
  • Feng Fang, executive assistant for vice mayor;
