Norris and Lori Marshall (front row, second and third from the left) will host the 2010 Cattlemen’s Ball near Kearney. UNMC Eppley Cancer Center Director Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., (back center) welcomed the Marshalls and other members of the Cattlemen’s Ball committee to campus last week.
Plans already are underway for the 2010 Cattlemen’s Ball.

But, on Oct. 27, the committee paused to visit the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center, to which nearly 90 percent of the event’s proceeds go for cancer research.

The 2010 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska will be held just five minutes from Kearney, Neb., at the home of Norris and Lori Marshall.

“You don’t have to be a farmer or rancher to attend this event — and you can wear jeans, shorts or whatever makes you comfortable,” Norris Marshall said. “This is one of Nebraska’s biggest parties — and everyone is invited next June.”

Last week, the group traveled to Omaha to tour the Durham Research Center II, The Lied Transplant Center, the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education and the Eppley Science Hall.

Honorary hosts for the 2010 Ball are Norris’ dad and uncle, Robin and Eugene Marshall, who have a long history in the cattle industry-from cow/calf production, to operating feed yards, as well as owning and operating a livestock auction market in Kearney.

Tickets for the 2010 Cattlemen’s Ball can be purchased online.
