picture disc.Quick, think of five things others should know about you.

That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”
Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee or student to feature.

This week, we feature Willie Vinson, a lead environmental services worker for Sodexo Environmental Services.

Here, in his own words, are five fun facts about Willie:

Willie Vinson
  • When I was 11, I ran the 50-yard dash in 6.6 seconds to break a record that was set by the great Jesse Owens. I also ran the 100-meter dash in 10.39 seconds in high school — which is still the second-best 100-meter time in Nebraska history.

  • I’ve coached track through the Boys Club and other organizations and have worked with many great athletes including Nebraska’s Niles Paul and former Cornhuskers Ahman Green, Calvin Jones and Keith Jones.

  • I’m a Christian and I belong to Omaha’s King Solomon Baptist Church.

  • My dad, brother and I own United Home Decor, a small family home repair business.

  • I have five children who are all honor students. I eat lunch every day with two of my children who attend Lothrup Elementary School.
