Joan Daughton, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry, recently received the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Pilot Research Award for Attention Disorders Supported by the Elaine Schlosser Lewis Fund.

The award encourages junior faculty and child and adolescent psychiatry residents to pursue research careers by supporting pilot research.

Dr. Daughton’s research focuses on effectiveness and tolerability of Ritalin LA in treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in 4- and 5-year-old children.

From this study, she concluded that Ritalin appears to be an effective treatment for ADHD in preschool-aged children and has limited side effects.
