That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”
Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature.
This week, we feature Matthew Monaghan, electric shop interim supervisor in UNMC Facilities Management and Planning.

- I enjoy family vacations with my wife, Mary, who works on campus as a fellowship coordinator, and my two daughters Melanie, 12, and Mary, 9.
- I have a great time playing outdoor yard games and board games with the family, and they all seem to have a knack for finding my weak spots to win.
- I can always find something to do around the house. So far I have remodeled a basement so there is a family room, office and full bathroom. There’s also a backyard deck that was put on the house this year with the help of some carpenters.
- The holidays are nice, but I would rather spend time with family and friends with a good BBQ, warm weather, yard games and some ice cold drinks.
- I enjoy sports on television but watching my kids play sports and other games is more enjoyable because of the competition they bring to the game.
