Gerald Pierce
Gerald Pierce — a medical social worker who had worked at The Nebraska Medical Center for 31 years — died recently.

Pierce worked in the medical/surgical areas in University Tower. He also served with the Ethics Consultation Services for several years and often oriented new staff and helped with Social Work interns.

“Gerry was most importantly an advocate for the patient and family. He was always concerned about patient rights, confidentiality and privacy,” said Susan Stensland, social work manager at The Nebraska Medical Center.

Services for Pierce were held Dec. 2 in Omaha.

I am very sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. Gerry took excellent care of my father while he was an in-patient here. He went above and beyond to make sure my dad had the care he needed when he was discharged. My thoughts are with Gerry's family.

Gerry's handwriting was the worst I ever struggled to read but I always overlooked it because he was such a good guy who was very helpful to patients, families, and the staff. He'll be missed.
