Winter weather safety reminders

With more snow in the forecast for today, the UNMC Safety Leadership Team reminds the campus community to be alert around snow removal equipment.

Equipment operators often can’t see everything around them, so pedestrians and drivers are urged to pay special attention to snow removal crews.

Several near misses between snow removal equipment and pedestrians and other vehicles have been reported during recent snow storms.

To the snow removers … UNMC Today would like to thank medical center snow removal personnel for their work the past few weeks. They have put in a lot of hours, moved a lot of snow and have done a great job!

The most dangerous time is when the equipment backs up because the equipment operator does not have a clear view of everything behind the equipment.

Safety officials stress that pedestrians and drivers shouldn’t assume snow removal equipment operators see them.
