UNMC employees can contribute to recreation therapy programs at the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) simply by wearing denim.
The C. Louis Meyer Rehabilitation Foundation, sponsor of the Walk and Roll for Disabilities, has organized the second annual Denim for Disabilities.
Starting today and ending Feb. 5, departments at UNMC may select one or more days when employees can purchase a “Denim for Disabilities” sticker for a minimum donation of $1 and wear denim for the day. Those who already have a designated casual dress day can celebrate it by donating $1 and wearing the sticker.

The recreation therapy programs at MMI provide safe recreational and leisure activities for children and adults with disabilities. More than 500 families benefit from these services each year.
“The recreation therapy department at MMI receives no designated state or federal funding, so the support of various endowments, foundations and people make it possible to provide these services to families,” said Michael Crawford, Re.D., director of recreational therapy at MMI.
All Denim for Disabilites donations will go toward recreational events, such as dances and bike rides, for adults with disabilities.
