Dr. Borgstahl elected to crystallography committee

Gloria Borgstahl, Ph.D., a professor in the Eppley Institute, has been elected to a three-year term on the U.S. National Committee for Crystallography (USNC/Cr).

The USNC/Cr represents U.S. crystallographers in the International Union of Crystallography through the National Academy of Sciences.

Crystallographers work in many areas including:
  • Biochemistry;
  • Structural biology;
  • Pharmaceuticals;
  • Materials research; and
  • Crystal growth.

In her lab in The Lied Transplant Center, Dr. Borgstahl performs basic research on protein-DNA and protein-protein interactions that govern DNA metabolic processes. Her group battles breast cancer by providing an understanding at the atomic level of the macromolecules and complexes involved in the progression of this disease.

“I congratulate Dr. Borgstahl on her election to the USNC/Cr,” said Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Eppley Institute. “She is a valued and respected member of the crystallography community who will bring insight and enthusiasm to this committee.”
