Dr. Chambers honored by Missouri engineering college

Ward Chambers, M.D.
Ward Chambers, M.D., coordinator of UNMC’s International Health and Medical Education program, will receive the 2010 Missouri Medal of Honor Award for Distinguished Service in Engineering.

Dr. Chambers — who earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri College of Engineering in 1967 — will receive the award in March at the college’s awards banquet.

Dr. Chambers earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1970 and his medical degree from UNMC in 1973.

Dr. Chambers has:

  • Endowed two scholarships for minority engineering students at Missouri;
  • Been a member of the MU engineering college’s dean’s external advisory committee for about 10 years;
  • Served on the college’s diversity subcommittee for about five years; and
  • Recently been elected president of the Dean’s Foundation for the College of Engineering.

Dr. Chambers has been on the UNMC faculty since 1989 and served in a wide variety of high-level administrative posts, including director of medical affairs and president of the practice groups.
