‘Caps for Cancer’ set for tonight’s UNO hockey Game

It’s one of the few times of the year when UNO hockey fans are invited to throw things onto the ice at the Qwest Center Omaha. And it’s for a good cause.

University of Nebraska at Omaha Maverick Hockey fans are invited to bring a new, unworn hat to tonight’s UNO-Bemidji State game, which begins at 7:35 p.m.

The “Caps for Cancer” collection is sponsored by MavPuck.com, The Red Army, and the UNO Blue Line Club. This is the fifth year for the event, which is held during the last regular home series of the season.

The hats and caps that are collected are given to patients at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. Only new hats will be accepted. For fans who forget to bring caps with them, caps will be available for purchase at the Lawlor’s Custom Sports Wear merchandise stand at the Qwest Center.

For each cap sold during hockey games on Friday and Saturday at the Qwest Center, Lawlor’s will donate $1 to the Eppley Cancer Center.
