The following is a list of recent achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students:

The Aging Interest Group, an interdisciplinary group of students from the Colleges of Nursing, Medicine and Pharmacy as well the School of Allied Health Professions, recently helped more than 55 seniors during the its annual health screening fair at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha.

Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H, dean of UNMC’s College of Public Health was recently appointed to co-chair the Collaboration and Partnering Committee for the Association of Schools of Public Health’s (ASPH) global health core competency development project. It will develop national competencies for masters-level students in global health programs. His term will last until spring 2011.

Chris Brown, a master’s of public health student in the College of Public Health, has been elected national coordinator of the Society of Student Run Free Clinics. His term will last until January 2011.

Liliana Bronner, a program associate with the Rural Health Education Network in the College of Public Health, was recently appointed by Gov. Dave Heineman to serve on the Women’s Health Initiative Advisory Council. Her term lasts until summer of 2012.

Susan Beidler, Ph.D., associate professor in the College of Nursing, presented a discussion about nurse-led teams at the Institute of Medicine’s Best Practices Innovation Collaborative in Washington on March 8.

Maha Farid, a graduate student in the laboratory of Stephen Rennard, M.D., has been named the recipient of the Kuhl Award, which is funded through the University of Nebraska Foundation in honor of Robert E. Kuhl of Oxford, Neb. The award supports faculty and student research projects that involve respiratory diseases.
