Funeral services for Jud Gurney, M.D., longtime professor of radiology at UNMC, will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Omaha (1920 N. 102nd St.).

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church with a vigil service to follow.

Dr. Gurney, 55, died Thursday after a battle with stomach cancer.

“Jud was recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in his field,” said Craig Walker, M.D., professor and chairman of the UNMC Department of Radiology. “Dr. Gurney was without exception admired by our residents for his expertise and commitment to their education.

Memorials are suggested to the Jud W. Gurney, M.D. Professorship in Radiology at the University of Nebraska Foundation, St. Pius X/St. Leo School, Marian High School and Creighton Prep.

Dr. Gurney first joined UNMC’s radiology faculty in 1989. He joined the Mayo Clinic faculty in 2000 and returned to UNMC in 2002 when he was named to his current position as the Charles A. Dobry Professor of Diagnostic Radiology.

In January, he received the Silver Medal Award from the Nebraska Radiological Society — the highest honor given by the NRS.
