Tours offered at VA medical center today as part of ‘Research Week’ activities

Community members are invited to learn about the Department of Veterans Affairs cutting-edge research program today during Research Day activities at the Omaha VA Medical Center.

The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System Research Service team will offer tours of the medical center’s research service at 9:30 a.m. as part of its National VA Research Week celebration.

VA milestone

This year, the Department of Veterans Affairs celebrates 85 years at the vanguard of research for veterans’ care.

Tours will begin near the Education Conference Room on the first floor, at the rear of the VA medical center at 4101 Woolworth Ave.

“Our research at the VA includes understanding the basic mechanisms of diseases, as well as conducting clinical trials for diabetes, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis, and studies aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of health care delivery,” said Deb Romberger, M.D, professor in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine’s pulmonary, critical care, sleep and allergy division. She also is associate chief of staff of research and development at the Omaha Division of the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.

More than 30 UNMC faculty members are affiliated with VA research.
