Services today for former NU regent Robinson

Services are today for Margaret Robinson, one of the first women elected to the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

Robinson died Sunday, Dec. 1, at a Norfolk nursing home after suffering from a long illness. She was 79. Services will be today (Dec. 4) at 10 a.m. at Temple Israel at 70th and Cass Streets.

Robinson was elected to the NU Board of Regents in 1982, joining Nancy Hoch in becoming the first women elected to the board. She was elected to two six-year terms on the board and served as a chairwoman. The University of Nebraska at Omaha gave her an achievement citation in 1995.

The U.S. Small Business Administration recognized Robinson’s business skills when it gave Norfolk Iron and Metal its 1979 Nebraska Small Business Award. Today the steel processor and supplier, which Robinson once led, is one of the largest in the United States. Robinson, who served as the company’s business executive, was inducted into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame in 2001.

Survivors include her son, Richard Robinson of Norfolk; daughters Gwenn Robinson of Albuquerque, N.M., Barbara Robinson-Dunn of Okemos, Mich., and Diane Robinson of Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and sisters Florence Moser of Evanston, Ill., and Eve Raden of Dallas.
