Creative Check-up for communicators a healthy dose of training

A free, half-day conference for campus communicators, titled “Creative Check-up 2010,” will be held Wednesday, June 23.

The professional development conference — the first multi-faceted conference offered to the group — aims to gather all employees on campus responsible for marketing their department, college or unit through print or online mediums.

Do you create communications materials such as newsletters and brochures for your department? Do you work on your department’s website or run its Facebook or Twitter account? If so, you are a campus communicator! Contact Jill Carson at jlcarson@unmc.edu to join the campus communicators group e-mail list. The group meets regularly to discuss writing, design, web training and visual expression of UNMC.

Integrated marketing expert Don Schultz, Ph.D., will be the keynote speaker at lunch. Dr. Schultz, emeritus professor at Northwestern (Ill.) University and president of the global marketing company, Agora, will present “Building and Maintaining Brand Connections.” Other morning sessions will include:
  • Brand diagnosis, led by Stuart Chittenden of David Day & Associates, an Omaha marketing communications firm;
  • Routine exam: Is your web copy effective?, led by Alex Flagg, UNMC associate director for web communications; and
  • Eye Q, led by Chittenden.

“We are thrilled about the presentations that are being offered to our campus community,” said Jill Carson, marketing specialist in public relations. “We have a great line-up of speakers who are sure to be highly interactive and engaging.”

The conference is free and open to the campus community. It will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center.
